The Full Story
Katrina Carter-Journet, who writes under the pen name K.L. Carter, is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She is a reflective and imaginative author whose works fuse science, spirituality, and self-discovery through the lens of cosmic wonder. Drawing from a distinguished career spanning over 20 years in the space industry—including contributions to the Space Shuttle Program, International Space Station (ISS), next-generation spacesuit development, and the emergence of the commercial space industry including space tourism—she has worked with organizations such as NASA’s Johnson Space Center, Virgin Galactic, Blue Origin, and now Vast. Through these experiences, she transforms her technical expertise and passion for exploration into stories that inspire readers to dream without limits.

Her debut book, Mystical Girl, and its companion Mystical Girl Affirmation Coloring Book invite readers to explore beauty, energy, and self-affirmation through a cosmic lens. Her follow-up, Earthium Rise Boy, offers an Afro-futuristic, anime-inspired journey of reflection and empowerment—a creative counterpart to Mystical Girl.

Her newly released children’s book, Let’s Chase the Moon, tells the heartwarming story of Amara, a bright and curious African American girl learning to be a caring and supportive big sister to her brother Dainin, who has Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Raised by their mother, a hardworking aerospace engineer, the siblings live in a home where love, patience, and understanding are as vast as the stars. Through lessons drawn from space exploration and the cosmos, Amara learns empathy and patience, while Dainin discovers mindfulness and self-control. Together, they navigate childhood’s challenges, united by family, love, and their mother’s wisdom—a reminder that, like the universe, love is infinite and no one is left behind.
Through her body of work, K.L. Carter bridges the technical and the transcendent, crafting a universe where engineering meets emotion and where stars, affirmations, and identity align.
